I would not recco an electronic kit ofr a beginner. True they have lots of advantages, not the least of which is the ability to practice without annoying others, which is helpful when you are a noob and you flat out suck.
However, if you learn on an e-kit, and then you sit at a real kit, you'll be lost. The feel is so different, and you likely won't be able to pull the sound you need out of a real kit. Not to mention you'll not know how to tune the thing.
I recommend someone start on a real kit...it'll take you a bit longer to make yourself, and the kit, sound good, but you'll be ahead of the curve in the long haul.
