Re: 2017 album discussion thread

Origin have released the same album. Again. The production on the new one is impossible to sift through.

Blood Mantra is a car CD, but I hate myself for saying it. Seven days to go.

Wow, what a surprise. This craziness has astounded me. Loved the use of the saxophone.
Yet have to listen to it, also give Stetson's solo work a try if his sax is making you wet, stylistically very different tho.

Anticult sucks even more than I could have expected. It's definitely worse than Blood Mantra. It doesn't even suck in any interesting ways.

Re: 2017 album discussion thread

It lacks a lot of identity for sure. The last riff on One-Eyed Nation is killer, like the riff in Blood Mantra at 3:00, one great riff per album haha. I've given it two days and I'm bored of it. Anger Line sounds like Devin Townsend meshed with Carnival is Forever, an interesting angle.

It also has some of Vogg's most interesting lead work since Organic, and yet it's a lot more freestyle and bluesy as with his recent stuff; secondly, I'm really sold on the drummer on this one, he's a natural successor to Krimh who I loved.

New Iced Earth is a ripper, as is Broken Hope, classic, earthy metal both of them.

New Dodsengel is an album of the year; at first it appeared sparse, but there are layers and layers to this record, plus vocal performance of the year on par with Dodheimsgard yet reaching the highs of Halford. So far black metal is stealing 2017.

The post was my last ditch attempt to talk myself out of buying the album, which failed. I couldn't resist, and I still have Demanufacture and Chaos A.D. in my collection so I really have no argument against it.

It's too early to say how it would stack against Blood Mantra on the whole, but I said that after listening to Exiled in Flesh which I still think is a great track...Dummy God Creation on the other hand...

Spectral Voice doesn't sound like B.I. at all.

One thing I find annoying about this album is how low the volume in the mix is, I have to really crank up the volume on my speakers to hear it well. Unless I just downloaded a bad rip?

I'm not saying they are identical. I see Spectral Lore is a lot doomier, but it's in the same aesthetic ballpark to me. But I will definitely give their new stuff a try in the least biased way I can manage.

LOL. I even noticed partway through my last post, and tried to correct it, and still typed Spectral Lore.

Another new Execration track, so far the last 2 tracks they have released are better than the first one.

Re: 2017 album discussion thread

There must be something wrong with me that I'm excited for this. I did like the S/T but I haven't gone back to it since. Then again I never go back to anything sadly. Satyr is so pretentious. Eventually that has to pay off into a left field masterpiece, right??

By pretentious do you mean of how highly he describes his own music? Everything post-Extravaganza has been good I feel, I'm looking forward to this new record.

A whine about Decapitated, the nerve of them to put Kill The Cult on the same album as Earth Scar, who do they think they are, Vader? The latter is such a shit track, goddamn, aggro-rock, the worst Carcass riff and Homo Sum's bathwater.

I don't think I've seen this posted yet, so might as well:

It sounds like... well, like exactly what you'd expect. Not my first choice for personal listening, though I will readily admit that they're a band that I thoroughly enjoy seeing live every time.

They always tour around Cali every year or so on larger circuits, so I'm sure I'll catch them playing the new stuff soon enough.

ooooo I like this. Vocalist kinda reminds me of Covan, but.... grimier? I dunno. Is there an accepted set of adjectives for describing socially awkward people trying to make scary noises in a mic because their fathers didn't love them enough?

either way, good stuff.

Yeah, just the way he talks about it. It's not a big deal.

I like all the albums too, to a certain extent. Now, Diabolical is probably my least favorite. I should go back to the S/T to see if I still like it, it's been a few years.

I'm kind of the opposite. I like them on record but I thought it sounded like a little bit of a clusterfuck both times I saw them.

The most recent Satyricon is basically garbage. This is coming from a huge fan. Think I've written Satyr off making another good album, but I'll listen anyway.

I just re-listened to the s/t today and came here to post that it's held up really well. But I remember most people here didn't like it in the first place.

I'm not really into dark shit, but the newest album by The Ruins of Beverast is special. I first listened to it while working when it initially came out and I thought it was ok, but on my camping trip this past weekend, my gf and I listened to it 4 times. I could listen to Mære on repeat all day
