Well, if you don't hook a brother up, a brother can judge only on the base of that single. But the "death metalized Si Monvmentum-riffs" description is pretty spot on on moments, but still, not something that would tremendously excite me tbh.

Talking about DsO, new Outre single just dropped. Not as varied as I would hope, but the DsO worshiping scene has been lacking lately, especially this year, give me some top shelf dissonance goddammit.

Plebeian Grandstand much?

(from their previous album)...if you don't mind your hardcore in it, this could actually be a fun summer listen

Bit of self promotion, two tunes off our new album on the Malthusian bandcamp.

Pretty heavy surprisingly. Has a Morbid Angel vibe.

I hope someday Psycroptic will return to form but I don't think it will ever happen.

hmmmm, not as bad as I was expecting. The choirs were kind of a cool touch. Wish the drums didn't sound so fake though.

i'm really diggin the riffs and songs, but what happened with the production, particularly when compared to ...Hengiform? it sounds as if half the frequencies are missing in the guitars. they're kinda... hollow. i'm not sure i'm diggin

We collectively hate the sound of Hengiform so went against that. Might sit better listening to the whole thing but, then again, maybe not. I love it.

This is probably my favorite track on the new PxDx. It's good to hear JR growl again even if it is brief. He just doesn't have the power he once did and it's kinda sad. I think he should slather his vocals with effects like he did on Phantom Limb.

Head Cage is growing on me. I think I might like it more than Book Burner but that isn't saying much. The bass still isn't needed and I miss Brian Harvey on drums.

While I wouldn't argue that it doesn't sound like Pig Destroyer, 'cuz it does, it sure is weird to hear them release what amounts to a groove metal album.

I mean, it's way closer to something like Burnt by the Sun than grindcore. Fun for its runtime, but I hope this isn't a new 'direction' for them.

I remember reading an interview with Scott Hull a couple years back that the new album he was working on would be vastly different than their past material; that it would be more along the lines of sludge and doom. Then I read the rest of members winced when he said there wouldn't be any blasts and they had to convince him to write some grindcore tracks for the album. So this is evidently the direction Hull wants to take PxDx.

The BBTS comparison is a pretty good one; thing is that's not what I listen to PxDx for. I appreciate the experimentation though and it's cool they utilize Blake more and make him seem like a more useful member. I dig some of the sludgier tracks but the ratio of sludge to grind is off to me. If there were 8-10 more Terminal Itch/Mt. Skull tracks I'd be a lot more satisfied.

You should really go back and revisit Ghost Chorus. While I love Atrophy, I think Ghost Chorus is much more three dimensional.

Interesting, thanks for mentioning that. I think PD doing something straight sludge/doom could be incredible. They have it in their sound already and the tracks/EPs they've done in the style carry the band's usual menace.

You're right about Brian Harvey though. The riffs and drums just don't groove together like they used to. Actually think the bass on Head Cage helps to alleviate the lacking rhythm though. I couldn't really hear it 'til this album, but it fattens out the more straightforward, slower grooves. I agree earlier PD sounds just fine with only guitar, but without the extra bottom end I don't think Head Cage's material would've come off heavy enough.

Old school / dark but progressive, an enjoyable listen.

I just saw them the other week. I don't know the band at all and it really impressed me. Much more aggressive than I was expecting. I would've grabbed the album at the show but the merch line was pretty long after. Definitely picking this up!

Pretty savage band all in all. Was definitely initially surprised how harsh and dense the material is as well. Don't like them as much as I do Isis, but it's damn good stuff, for sure.
