Re: Beginning Guitar [Help Wanted]

I have literally hundreds of riffs and ideas that I’ve recorded over the past decade and I have no one to share them with. I shared a few with Kevin Hufnagel and he liked both of the “songs” I showed him. That was around colored sands era(yes I have gorguts tabs but they’re not mine to share). Also I’m looking through my videos and it’s funny to see how I was a hardcore shred demon in high school writing ridiculously difficult over the top riffs to focusing more on composition over time.

Seriously though Dripping, if you’re just getting started, I can’t recommend Guthrie Govan’s creative 1 enough. It’s probably the best starting point and it’s great for guitarists of all levels.

Re: Beginning Guitar [Help Wanted]

I'd be cautious about tabs (not saying to not use them by any means - I do)...

The vast, vast majority of guitar players are pretty awful at transcription - you'll be lucky to find tabs that are 80% accurate. It's a skill that is woefully underdeveloped by most people, it seems.

If there's music that you really want to learn, find a tab - but try to compare it with the original and fix it. Transcribe is a pretty much perfect piece of software for doing that.

Agreed for the most part. As a starting tool, I owe everything to tabs. I'll never forget how blown away I was that you could just look at numbers across 6 lines and learn music like that.

Re: Beginning Guitar [Help Wanted]

Tabs are good start indeed but I think it can make you lazy to learn the method later. I've started to play guitar with tabs and it's been ten years but still I have no intention to learn any guitar method lol
