WHAT you play should be the only deciding factor. Holding a guitar like it's a gigantic phallus is just a sad show for kids who think it looks "Sick".

And to Phoncible, every instrument has to stand it's test of time to be considered even remotely respectable as a lead instrument. I mean, the electric bass itself wasn't even respected as an instrument worthy of Jazz until the 70's. You cannot judge a musician based upon his instrument's expected role, only his technique, musicality and uniqueness. And judging by that criteria this mother has some credit.

This thread gives Erlend a gigantic erection. Or does Erlend give everyone in this thread a gigantic erection?

Either way, you are apparently the new God of Extreme Metal Bassists.

I do. Think of how many people Jaco got to noodle with solo/lead bass and now look at how many people are covered by major publications that do the same thing. In 10 years the amount of bass-centered music will be stupidly greater than it is now. With guys out there like Adam Nitti and Vic and Claypool and whatnot kids will always have the incentive to be the biggest and the best and none of them will think that just playing a walking like will make them such.

most music today is bass-centered (that is, not centered around soloing on a bass guitar, but bass-centered). and yes, there's tons of kids today who want to be vic or nitti or whoever.

i just said what i was thinking when i saw that vid. yes i absolutely think upper register-play on the bass has its place in music, but in general i think its better beeing creative within your element than trying to make it something else. what i like best about wooten is his basslines, not his wankery!

Well, it's not that he has those strings. It's that he has them and can play them.
