What's the songwriting process like?

I'm interested in knowing what the songwriting process is like for the members of Augury. Do you all get together and contribute ideas or do you just jam on your own and then present what you got during practice or just flat out write everything on your own? Also how do you go guys go about putting multiple ideas together to form a song?

I ask because I need some inspiration. I find that I can come up with really good ideas really easily but I lack the glue to put them all together and form a song =\

Each member writes songs, pretty much complete, and then we arrange them collectively. Like for example Skyless was written by Forest, he shown me a few guitar parts that he'd like me to play and I wrote the remainder of my guitar part myself. Same for Mat. We then gather and check if everything we come with sounds good.

Considering its a death metal band I'd go with "none".

I'm willing to bet though that considering the type of caliber of musicians in the band. Even if they didn't write in key their ear would lead to follow some sort of relative key I suppose!

Well, I can get you a few starting points. I will go according to heard pitch, and no from the hand position since we detune.

Beatus-B
EKPA-starts Bb/D chorus Bb/B scary bridge C#/C Clean part: C#Fm Cm D# etc
Cosmic-start G, then E, the weird fast part on a A pedal. The rest...fewww
Nocebo-Cm F# clean part starts in E
Alien- B
Russian-D-G odd time sig part in D# clean in E
Becoming-B
Lair B, second mellow part Em
From Eden, starts in Em
...as sea.... starts in D, some B modes in it

Skyless is drop A tuning and is mostly in A, same for FP.

Do you guys use/know any theory? Like harmonic progressions and the like... or do you just settle with your ear?

Pat has obviously some knowledge of music theory(Mathieu and Forest probably have as well), as the songs are written with a specific key in mind.
