Among other things, I have used DFHS 2.0 with cubase (same as DEP) in my own recordings. I suspect that this segment used prerecorded samples for the drums (electronically programmed drums).

Exhibit A: The drums sound great, which means they were either recorded in a studio, or they are prerecorded samples. Recording for Option Paralysis is not set until the 24th, so these drums were likely made before Billy had access to a professionally mic'ed studio kit.

Exhibit B: The drums sound super metronomic and even. Granted, Billy might be a machine, or the drum hits were quantized to the beat later (as they likely would be, if recorded for an album), but it has a strong programmed feel IMO.

Exhibit C: That hi-hat and ride bell sound super Toontracks-y. Maybe it was drumagoged with DFHS, and then quantized, but at that point it might as well have been programmed.

Conclusion: Either Billy is a cyborg with a studio at his disposal, or that was programmed drumming.

It sounds like a drum machine, but it would say Greg lied to us.

New short article about Dillinger here.

Quote:
Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman allowed a little insight into the band's unorthodox existence and he wasn't only speaking about the recording process, revealing that vocalist Greg Puciato "lives in his car. He would drive to California, stay there for a few months, keeping everything in his trunk. He lives out there for now."

Not only is Puciato's habitat a bit out of the ordinary, but the manner in which his band records their much-worshiped music is an even bigger anomaly. But hey, who are we to judge? Whatever works, right?

Weinman explained that Puciato puts his vocals to songs after they are written. "He doesn't have any idea what it'll sound like until he gets record-quality demos," Weinman reveals. "I'm the only original member and I act as 'Dillinger quality control.' I make sure the songs maintain the vision that I have, and the other guys can contribute what they do. They've played with me long enough, or have been a fan before they were in the band, so it makes for an interesting scenario, as it has the consistency that I want, and they add things I never thought of adding. So it works."

Dillinger's next album, 'Option Paralysis,' is due out via Season of Mist shortly, via a new and, of course, off-the-beaten-path, one-album deal.

New blog!

Quote:
Ok....sorry for the lack of recent updates, but we've had our noses to the grind lately getting this record written, and haven't seen the light of day much. If you've been paying attention to our twitter accounts, you know that we've leaked TWO demo snippets so far. We usually demo the entire record pretty extensively before we enter the studio, so that we don't waste too time fiddling around once we get in there. The snippets, for those of you not following along on twitter, are:

EXHIBIT A

EXHIBIT B

We'll be using this myspace as well as our twitters to update you throughout the recording process, so stay tuned.

Latest BIG news though, is that we are playing a show in Los Angeles to kick off the whole recording process. September 5th, we've been added to FYF Fest(formerly Fuck Yeah Fest!....but I guess the new abbreviation now makes it...Fuck Yeah Fest...Fest?). Get PSYCHED if you live around here. This means that for the first time in a long time...DEP and CONVERGE are gonna be playing together!!!! Other killer bands playing include Torche, Lightning Bolt, Fucked Up, and more. Don't miss out. It's only a $20 ticket, at the Los Angeles State Park in Downtown LA, and it's for a good cause! The fest aims to raise awareness of the possible closure of up to 100 State Parks due to recent California budget cuts. It's gonna be nice to play and have fun before the pure torture of recording starts.

Check out the full lineup and details here.

We start recording FOR REAL on September 7th. Oh yeah...those demo snippets....that's Billy playing drums, not a drum machine as some have speculated. Get ready. We've got a bunch of songs that are gonna be more than enough for you all to chew on for a while.

I feel like I'm missing something. I probably am and it's probably because I've been listening to these insane songs and parts on a loop for months now and its basically starting to feel like I'm being dropped down a long flight of steep stairs over and over again. I'm telling you...every time we make a record, I think we all go gradually more and more insane from it, and we haven't even started real recording yet. We wrap on October 30th...hopefully we won't all need lobotomies by then. Why do you think we go through members so fast?

I can't believe that we start actual tracking in less than two weeks! This time two years ago we were mixing Ire Works. Time flies, and things are way different than they were back then. Two years is a relatively short period of time, but things were literally on the brink of destruction at that time and now they are stronger than ever. Crazy. Wait 'til you hear what we've got for you now. The vibe when we recorded Ire Works was defined by a feeling of struggle and hope and just staying alive in the face of almost falling apart, feeling triumphant in making it through the previous couple of years, and now the vibe is "ok now we're just gonna fuck everyone up." As always, we love you guys for being here through it all, through our evolution over the last decade, and we look forward to and get off on interacting with all of you in every way. The Dillinger Escape Plan is like a living entity to us, a cell of sorts, of which you are all a part. We're psyched to bring in 2010 and the next decade of our existence with a total motherfucker of a record.

"Option Paralysis" release date is coming soon. See some of you soon in LA, I'll update this again the day before we start recording, and then you guys can follow along on here, twitter, youtube, whatever.

I'll have to admit a little pee came out when I read DEP and Converge...

Perhaps they will tour together to support their new albums next year, the thought of that made something else come out and boy was it sticky...

That would redeem the shittiness of Converge being on the Dethklok tour. Somehow I can't see it happening though...
