Films are nearly on a par with music for me. They take a lot of creative talent to get right, the same as with any great band. I'll follow a directors output just as i will any bands.

I watched a low budget independent film called Primer the other day. A little bit of a time-travelling head fuck. Good though.

Also, is it bad that i was much more attracted to Zoe Saldana as a thundersmurf than i am to photos of her IRL? My initial reaction is to say its ingrained racism because she's black but then.... in avatar she's a 9-foot blue cat bitch. WHY DO I FIND THAT HOT?

Agreed. For me it comes down to moods that usually last a week or two. Sometimes, I'll care a lot more about films than music and I won't touch my iPod once but I'll make three or four trips to the video store and binge on a certain director. Other times I won't make a single trip to the store and I'll stay at home and download a dozen new albums in one week. So it changes pretty often.

Also, crack hitler: I fucking lol'd.

In Avatar she was a blue scantily-clad flexible alien thing.

I don't disagree with you, Crack Hitler.

Finally saw The Wrestler.

Wow, it's been awhile since a film has moved me this much. Micky Rourke did a brilliant job. When the film initially ended, I thought "wow, this was pretty damn depressing" but then I realized (spoilers ahead) that he died doing the one thing he loved doing, which is a WHOLE lot more than a lot of people can say about themselves (besides the fact they're dead and can't say anything). so despite losing everything the world had to offer him, including family, friends, and money, he at least found peace somewhere. so while this was a life-fuckin'-sucks film, it did offer a glimmer of hope in that Randy was at peace when he died; in fact, he was HAPPY when he died.

but yeah, sorry for the rambling, it was a great film. Highly recommended. loved the score, the cast, the cinematography, the director, etc. go see the fuck out of it.

The Ram didn't die. He's still out there flying off the top ropes in a grange hall somewhere.

Much respect for Clint as a director and as a western actor.

As for his modern-day acting, t' hell with it. He just fuckin grunts and is mad. It gets old fast. Glad he's done acting.

I don't know why they made that an action movie. Maybe I'll have to see it to understand it.

Well, the books are more or less action. Disguises..... Boxing.... Heroin... Apes..... Violins..... Chemistry sets....

Okay, maybe not action.

Well usually you think of Sherlock Holmes, you think of mystery. A lot slower than this movie is making itself out to be, but again, I can't judge until I've seen it.

In other news, just watched There Will Be Blood for the third time.

Good God, I could watch this movie everyday for the rest of my life and I'm convinced I could find something new or interesting about it every time I watch it. Fucking brilliant movie.

That movie was great. Lewis is a really engaging actor.

I've only seen it once. Need to see it again.

I saw Avatar today. I didn't want to believe the hype, but it was really quite special. It managed to make some tired ideas feel really fresh.

I thought Gran Torino was a good movie that had Clint Eastwood acting as someone.

Also, Avatar was good save for some shitty acting parts (Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver's lines were bad). I also kinda felt everything was kinda just crammed together in that 3 hour session, and the story kinda jumped to everything. I believe the movie could've possibly been better if it was stretched out into some sequels with more time invested into it.

Maybe I'm just too sensitive to that, but I thought Michelle Rodriguez sounded like she had some sorta cheesy hard-ass dialogue, and Sigourney Weaver had a sorta typical irate scientist persona.

I reckon Clint Eastwood is a better director than actor.

(I'm good at stating the obvious.)

He is also credited for the music in Flags of our Fathers. Next thing I learn is the fact that Steven Seagal has jammed with Bo Diddley.

Just watched If.... by Lindsay Anderson. Takes a while to get into it, but well worth it.

The Third Man is next.

Haven't seen One Hour Photo, but The Truman Show is definitely underrated.

As for Avatar, I loved it. I wasn't expecting the reaction I had, but it wasn't like anything I had seen before visually. Enjoyed the story too. While possibly "borrowed" from Dances w/ Wolves etc. it really did feel fresh and exciting.
