Remember When Immolation Was Cool?

Yeah, turns out they still are

Haven't listened to these guys in a little bit and am starting to jam them alot more. Still one of my favorite death metal bands and its great how some time away has made me appreciate them even more and see their music in a whole new light.

I know this is the millionth Immolation thread but its been a little bit of time since the last one and feel like some solid discussion could come up. Thoughts on their last album? Favorite album/track from their career? Thoughts on their live show? Lets discuss some god hatin death metal faggots

I've grown to quite enjoy Harnessing Ruin, but Shadows in the Light still sucks.

Hahahaha

Well after being a bit disappointed with the last couple of releases (especially Shadows In The Light) I have to say I quite enjoy the last album.

But it'll always be about FFG and HIA with this band.

majesty and decay has some of their best material- a glorious epoch, the comfort of cowards, the purge, and pretty much every song on the album

dont get all the shadows in the light hate. that album slays(hates plague, passion kills, world agony, shadows in the light, lying with demons all ftw). i think harnessing ruin never got the attention it deserved because of the production imo.if harnessing had majesty and decay production then i think people would be singing a different tune about dat album.
but yeah amazing band. one the few bands that are consistent but still very exciting.

I also love Shadows in the Light. Harnessing Ruin is my least favorite, but that one still isn't bad at all. They're definitely a top 5 death metal band for me, and one of my favorite live bands in general.

Harnessing Ruin and Shadows in the Light definitely aren the bands weakest albums in my opinion but there are still some solid tracks peppered in with filler. Jammin the title track from Majesty & Decay and holy christ is that main tremolo riff pure evil, and i really think their new drummer fits in perfectly with them.

But as Cloaca said previously when it comes to Immo its all about FFG and HIA. Nothing comes close to touching those albums for me, not just because of the music but how many memories i have of listening to those at key points while growing up. Well it looks like im gonna go back and revisit them which i know damn well means im listening to Immolation for the rest of the night hahah.

Also Cloaca, Tim if you dont mind me calling you that, i know you play guitar from the occasional visit to RoG and have seen some of your videos (nasty chops bro dawg) and was wondering if you ever learned any Immo songs? Just curious since im definitely gonna start learning some and was interested in hearing if you had any particular favorites to play.

If you haven't heard them play "Close To A World Below" live, you're missing out on something awesome. It's so atmospheric and evil.

Hmm, I can't say I ever learned one the whole way through, but I did know how to play a fair bit of I Feel Nothing and The Devil I Know at one stage (sorry, never tabbed it out though). I think most Immo songs would be fairly even on a "fun to play" scale, just pick the one you like the most I guess

Love me some Immolation. One of the best bands I've seen live.

Honestly haven't been keeping up with their most recent releases, seems they're churning them out like clockwork. The last album I really got into was Unholy Cult and I think that one is underrated. Fuckin AWESOME album.

Favorite is Close to a World Below, however with Here In After a close second.

One of my all time favs, maybe even my all time favorite period. they peaked with HiA. But all their albums are amazing, for the most part. HiA through UC are just special, special albums.

Strange, I've revisited Immolation in the last week as well. Unholy Cult being the record of choice. I also agree with Harnessing Ruin suffering from the production, had it been different I would feel differently about it. Anyway, one of my favorite songs on UC may be either Bring Them Down or Wolf Amongst the Flock. The beginning riff of the former is just fucking evil to me.

These guys really need to come to Australia. Failures For Gods is where it's at, it has this smouldering and hateful and unforgettably evil sound.

My introduction to Immolation was in high school. I was helping to set up a PA system in the gym and at that time there was a girl's volleyball practice going on... We had to test the system and my friend just recently picked up CTAWB... That was a great moment

Failures remains my favorite release though but, the last album has been the best they've done in years and I have never seen them play/sound better than that tour!

Immolation is a love/hate band for me... I think I like HiA, but the other albums I have (CTAWB, HR and SITL) are really hit or miss. Even HiA can just completely do nothing for me depending on my mood when I'm listening.

I do want to pick up FFG at some point though; definitely seems like that time was a high point of their career.

FFG is my favorite by far

The production is so nasty and grim

I wanna see that shit live so bad. Favorite album and maybe even song.

I have a friend who saw them and Nile and slept through both bands in the hallway outside. Needless to say, I tell him to go fuck himself on a regular basis.

this. my fav band, love the riffing style. even named my own band after them hehe fanboi i know (well had to choose something so why not). For me suprise suprise its all about HIA + FFG + CTAWB. Tho i love dawn and the rest least fav being harnessing. But HIA is my fav and then come FFG and CTAWB tied for second place. IMO Harnessing not only suffers from production problems but the main thing being the song strength being low. It just doesn't pack a punch like the earlier releases. Some lackluster songs/riffs there. But in no way a bad album just nowhere near Immo's best stuff.

Immolation never lost their cool.

I wish Rob would spend more time to fine-tune his material, I don't think he's as good at the stream of consciousness jam and lock it writing as he is the more belabored, crafted tunes of the old days, but whatever.

Thats why the thread was created, to remind everyone that they are still better then the majority of death metal bands out there.

I've been listening to Unholy Cult a fuck load and now rank it tied with HIA, FFG and CTAWB as my favorite album. Definitely seems to get praise but not nearly the amount that is deserved. Everyone put this album on NOW (you may be granted a pass if you are listening to Gorguts or Ulcerate, otherwise no exceptions)
