Dear Mike and James

don't you get tired of having to tour with shitty metalcore bands? (see, The Burning Season)

Yah it kind of sucks that they have to usually tour with sucky bands. But I haven't been able to see them yet, so when I do I don't really care who else is playing as long as I see Arsis.

It's simple economics: metal-core does (sells) better, ALOT better than death metal. It's as simple as that. While Arsis in my opinion is very much rooted in metal and do not fit the metal-core mold at all, they are in a poisition in which they can tour with bands that do fit the mold of metalcore and fit in on the bill rather nicely. Why tour with br00tal underground death metal bands and come out of it in debt, or tour with more accessible bands and possibly come out making a profit. It's smart business.

has it occured to you guys that arsis has a lot of metalcore elements and that they may appeal to that crowd a lot more than theyd appeal to a crowd on say a behemoth and malevolent creation tour

That sounds pretty backwards to me. Arsis always seemed very rooted in death metal with no metalcore influence in their sound at all.

Did it ever occur to you that Metalcore rips off Melodic Death Metal and Arsis are a Melodic Death Metal band?

Metalcore sucks so I wish that Arsis wouldn't tour with those bands as much. But if they have to do it to not be in debt thats ok as long as they have tours like the necrophagist, alarmum, ion dissonance one.

i must say that i agree with the statements that ARSIS's last tour was with some pretty lame bands especially if you live in Utah like i do where the hard core and straight edge scene reins supreme but it didn't matter all that much when they came to Ogden just that i paid to see only one band but it was entirely worth it as always they fuckin killed. But how about them touring with All Shall Perish, those guys fuckin rock and i can't wait to see them in november

I honestly think saying Arsis has metalcore in them is an insult. One of the reasons they're my favorite band is because they play purely melodic death metal with no core influence whatsoever, something other American bands should seriously look to.

core also mandates a particular singing style, which arsis does not really seem to employ.

Metalcore bands aren't the only ones that use the type of riff I know you are speaking of. They did ruin that kind of riff and breakdowns. And are slowly ruining music as a whole (scenesterism is bad).

So just because a song has a breakdown riff it becomes metalcore? I don't hear any core influence either, sure a slower riff here and there, but it makes for some smooth touches. I agree about touring with shitty bands, but I can see how they would want to and expand the audience they are playing to. but from a fan stand point, I don't like to pay a full amount to go to a show and just see one good band, I'd rather go to a show like the Arsis/Necrophagist tour and see a bunch of bands that kick ass all one one show. I get my monies worth and one hell of a show that way.

Edit: I can see how entertaining a broad range of audiences would be appealing to a band. Music is made to be hears and the more people that hear it the more fans that you acheive. And I mean imagine Arsis going on and wipping the shit out of every other band on the show. The fans think the band they went to see is heavy, imagine what they think when Arsis blows that band right the fuck off the stage. Hell yeah!!
