[Tomes of Deceit]

I know I ranted about Tomb Mold being generic OSDM but after listening to the new one a bunch I do like it. Manor still doesn't grab me even going back to it but I feel that the new one is well written. Maybe they'll follow the path of Horrendous where once they spend a few years on one they come back with something that much better and with a little more identity (at least that was my impression of Idol). Also the whole artwork and layout is pretty awesome, best I've seen in a while.

Once I understood they are closer to Demilich than to Autopsy I could appreciate them more given the very thin production of their debut.

The new 1349 is phenomenal, one of Frost's best performances and I idolize the man. I really thought after their last two records and five years out they'd fall by the wayside of black metal yet here they are ferocious and quirky as ever.

Borknagar have somehow done it again, after a six year hiatus they've reinvented themselves, only to release one of their best records and lose one of black metal's most seminal vocalists all at the same time, only then to reinvent themselves again while expanding on Semen Inhistface's already mythological reputation - the man is a musical mastermind.

I share the enthusiasm on the new Teitanblood but then I'm enamored by raw, organic drum tones. Some of the riffs are very dull given now we can actually hear them.

New Unfathomable Ruination next month. Hmmmm.

Just gotta say, I'm really fucking digging Daemon. It reminds me of DMDS whilst still adding some tasteful experimentation throughout its runtime to break up any monotony. Also, Attila destroys as usual. I love those monk-ish, almost operatic vocals and those deep, daemonic (pun intended) growls. It's up there as one of his best performances. And hey, it actually made me stop listening to the new Exhumed album for an hour or so which is an achievement at this point.

i agree. it's definitely a very well made mix of their oldest and their newest material. top3 of theirs, easily, imo. definite contender for aoty

I'm waiting to listen to the new Mayhem until I buy the CD on 11/8, especially with the fact that I just bought Sunn O))) Pyroclasts and will be picking up Nile next week...but I can't wait to pick it up!! Sounding great especially the third track they released was unreal.

Yeah, I love the album as well. I ordered a shirt and threw in the Origin CD. Pretty impressed, I thought it would just be your basic enjoyable acoustic folk thing but the arrangements are really intricate and much more than just Borknagar minus the metal...

I have only been into the band for the past few years, and now that I am, I'm pretty surprised they're not bigger than they are. Maybe it's not QUITE as accessible but I could see it appealing to some of the broader fanbase of Amorphis/Opeth etc.

Cool - didn't realise it was out yet... all these November releases are confusing me haha. TMV is my favourite despite being introduced to the band by some older dudes who insist that only SDitC is real. I didn't mind PoG but it just didn't have that certain something.

The new Nile sounding great to me so far. It's definitely an unorthodox production, super clear like all later Nile but it actually sounds really brutal and chaotic in places. The low palm muted riffs sound really good, funny there was none of that in the two advance tracks. The epic keyboards give me a ATCONK vibe in places. Overall it seems like a way more inspired album than they've done in a while. I'm still getting used to some of the vocals.

That Schammasch introduction is a plethora of ill-conceived ideas, in no small part its length, and if it's even necessary at all. Three transitions before we get into the track's theme? That's bonkers.

I've just discovered Nekro Drunkz; the album cover leaves A LOT to be wished for but the music is filthy good death metal.

Schammasch went all wimpy on us with the new one apparently. I mean Metanoia is my favorite track of theirs and its not super aggressive, but this new stuff is new level of softness. But its not too surprising I guess as "The Maldoror Chants" already took a dive into those "post" waters.
