hmm, how long have you been playing? not a fan of the vocals, or the breakdowny metalcorey stuff. maybe if it had a better production i could get into it more, but probably not. you recorded this yourselves right? the section at 4:28 where you come in with the blast sounds way off.

yeah we dont have a good recording set up or anything but we did the best we could with what we have. id like to invest in good drum mics and stuff but i dont have the money. thanks for the input though.

edit: this is our most 'breakdowny metalcorey' song and is probably the most straightforward as well.

and am i that bad that you have to ask how long i've been playing? that sucks. i didnt think i was THAT bad.

No, I asked how long you have been playing before I even listened to the song, haha.

He asked for opinions, Sam. Why would I sugarcoat my response and say something like "i liked the energy dude," when that tells him NOTHING except, "I don't really care enough to give you a real critique of the music or production(not in this case since it wasn't a studio recording) or each individual band mates performances?"

the last three notes of that riff sound really out of place and made it a lot less enjoyable for me. The riff itself up to that point is kind of almost a throwback for me, sounds like something from a video game and I kind of like that. The acoustic part was pretty cool, to. And the drumming is solid enough to get through the song. There isnt a lot wrong and it sounds pretty good. How did you mic your set?

Sounds like the guitarists go out of key a lot.

The snare is panned completely to the right channel during the whole song.

Drums don't sound very good, but I understand it's a basement recording. What mics and preamps/interface did you use with this? I also think I hear some digital distortion from that guitar, perhaps the gain stage was too loud?

hey everything isn't all bad that makes me happy haha. and yeah the micing of the drums is definitely shitty. we don't have any mics for drum recording so we improvised with what we had. since we didnt have two equal mics we put one mic in between the two bass drums. we also had one on the snare, and then two for the cymbals.

as for guitar we ran it through the amp and through a mixer. i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do it that way lol.

You must not listen to a lot of music, then. If you've got to see it in person, live.. since the internet is only for lulz.

where does it sound off?

edit: there was more than one part not done to click only on the drums though - that was my mistake.

it's funny, after i brought the computer home with the track on it (after finishing recording) i listened to it and in my head i yelled out a giant 'fuck' when i heard that part, but i didn't think anyone would notice - not thinking that i was originally going to advertise it on the musicians forum. of course now people are noticing it. i want to change a little bit in there anyways so we will probably redo it or just change it up for the live show.

Haha, that's one rule... you can't EVER leave anything on a record that you "hope no one will notice". Remember that when you're in a studio you're pretty much playing a video game with infinite lives and continues - take the time to make it perfect, and if you can't do it in the time allotted and paid for, then you should have taken more preparation time before entering the studio.

well we want to record the songs like this so we can hear them and work out anything we will want to change when we go into a studio in the summer when we finish a couple more songs. when we're in an actual studio we'll do whatever we can to have everything perfect.
