Heard them both. Great bands. They have the same dark feel, but focus a bit less on twin guitar melodies.

I'd say Primordial, Mourning Beloveth, and Arghoslent are my three favorite bands at the moment. Though I've been depressed as hell lately, I still dig Arghoslent's more upbeat sound. The gloomy sounds of Mourning Beloveth and Primordial fit my present mood perfectly, though. Even though Primordial are not a doom band, they still sound almost as gloomy as Mourning Beloveth to my ears. MB are the most depressive band I've ever heard, which is a good thing.

Mourning Beloveth "The Sullen Sulcus", Evoken "Quietus", and Morgion's "Solinari" are all examples of doom metal brilliance, I think.

Hails to the Primordial hordes!!!!

This is my first post in a band forum. I posted first and only once before this in the Dime memorial forum...

So Primordial would be my fave band here, no doubt, and wicked to see you guys here!!

I'm of Irish blood, and into lots of Irish bands, especially Pagan Extreme Metal, whether Black or Death. Also, anything that falls under either subgenre classification, I tend to like the most, whether Pagan Metal, extreme or not, or Extreme Metal. Those cover the vast majority of my listening. My favorite band is Amon Amarth...

the ans to the origonal question,life_sucks,is 'what the hell kind do you think?'

Primordial are pure BM.....always were.....and vocal style is not restricted in BM.
Wilderness is BM,but it's also just GREAT rock and roll, and these always have been the finest Irish rock group of ANY genre.

My tastes would be the leading BM exponents,The Cradle,Primordial,Darkthrone,Carpathian Forest,Mayhem..some Sigh and Anaal Nackrath..but veers to other types of Metal....mostly (relativly)newer, hungry groups...from goth,H.I.M(great!) to Within Temptation and even some Nightwish and Rasmus....Lacuna Coil and one of the best straight live Metal bands you will ever see....CATHEDRAL!

.......I was reared on the Sabs, and my live band was the origonal Motorhead(loads o' times!),but I am not into the 1980's bands in general, although I am only too well aware that the likes of Antrax and Slayer and Lemmy's lot kept our heads above water through the long years of metal's unfashonable doldrums.

This is really a pretty interesting thread!!!
I would like to define the thread as:
"What kind of music are you into":

Here is an important part of my favourites:

Amorphis, Anathema, Bathory, Cinema Strange, The Cranberries, Darkseed, Dio, Dreadful Shadows, Rory Gallagher, Graveworm, Iced Earth (old cds), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Katatonia, Lake of tears, Manowar, Massive Attack, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, PRIMORDIAL, Rainbow, Rammstein, Saint Vitus, Sentenced, Sinergy, Solitude Aeternus, Slayer, The Smiths, Tiamat, Twisted Sister, Type O' Negative...

To be honest, I sometimes have difficulties to recognize the different genres of metal. Maybe someone can give me a hint???

The Smiths, and the Floyd!!???....good for you!

I would term the likes of HIM,Within Temptation,Nirvana,Dio...et al...as mainstream metal......although Alan accuses CRADLE of being 'mainstream'!...bit over-the-top there!

Metal had become very boring by the mid 1980's.....and the energy of Death/Trash/Speed metal(Manowar I would term 'Death metal'....a modern example would be 'Caliban')was a great breath of fresh air. However, the genre is by it's own restrictive 'rules'....inflexible and 'samey'.Black Metal GREW from these roots,in some ways a rebellion against restrictive styles.
It's not just the lyrics....BM is based on very particulsr speed/style of riffs, little if any lead breaks, and speed/style of drumming. It can actually be quite complex....which is why the BM groups tend to remain satisfying.

I listen to heaps of death/black metal and older rock

my rock tastes include
King Crimson, Billy Joel, Elton John, Tool, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Radiohead

my metal is
Anathema, Opeth, Dissection, Behemoth (a new one to me cos I saw them live and was hooked), Pain of Salvation, Devin Townsend, Virgin Black, Darkthrone, Empyrium, Emperor, and, while arguably no longer metal by any stretch of the imagination: Ulver.

Lately i've been listening to some Falkenbach and Windir mp3s.

first post too, so gday everyone!

Hmm. I hardly listen to any non-metal. For some reason the general mood and atmosphere of most non-metal doesn't speak to me; it's usually too upbeat or happy, or too mellow. The reason I thought this thread would be interesting is because Primordial can generally be grouped in with black metal, as well as bands like Agalloch and Opeth. I was wondering which of the two most people here listen to. Of course, it is possible that someone likes both black metal and bands such as Agalloch and Opeth. I myself am a black metal fan.

Mainly trad. metal/thrash (Overkill, Dio, Running Wild, Doomsword, WASP, Exodus, Annihilator, old megadeth)
And quite a lot of folk/pagan and Epic metal.
But I also like Death metal and classic rock (Uriah Heep, Ac/dc, Deep purple, Rainbow, Lynyrd Skynyrd). And I'm quite into Blues too.
None of this newer sounding bolloxs or rap/hip-hop I can't stand that shite.

......and,just by-the-way, got a cd version of Hecate Enthroned's quite early (some would say 'classic')album 'Upon Promeathean Shores'....not that easy to get their stuff....or Anaal Nathrakh's...in Dublin, and we are only a couple of hundred miles from Birmingham and London as the crow flies when he's sober.

.........only had it on a tape for a few years and never saw the sleeve-notes before.
Among the 'thank you's' is..........PRIMORDIAL.
If us BM lot are a society-within-a-society,it's nice to see little touches like that.

I am a big fan of the band Opeth, (went to see them live last year XD) but I thnk that their music is very different to that of Primordial. I have also seen Primordial classed under the Genre of "doom metal"...

I listen to mainly Thrash Metal and Brutal Death Metal more than I listen to Black Metal, Primordial is the main Black Metalish band I listen to. (Slightly above Agalloch)
(I like all subgenres of metal - except the nazi white supremisit black metal stuff)

I also like Grunge, Alternative music like The Smiths & The Cure, not forgetting Orchestrial, Johnny Cash, lots of forms of Folk, and many many computer game themes (mostly from JRPGs or japanese based games/films)

Well... I must say I´m into all genres within metal, I really love Power, Heavy, Black Metal... Even those bands singing about "swords and unicorns" eheh, there´s a moment for everyone of them, IMO. If I have to mention a bunch of them, among my faves are: Helloween, Rage, Maiden, Stratovarius, Emperor, Immortal, Limbonic Art, old Children of Bodom, In Flames, Heavens Gate or Riot.

Ambient band also has it´s magic a lot bands like Triarii, Vinterriket, Ildjarn (ambient), or even Enya at some moments.

I also like 80s Hard rock, some Pop songs from the 80s, classic music (Wagner, Grieg and Bach rules), blues and jazz... So I consider myself a little open minded.

But I must admit that only few bands had the sound to make me travel to attend at its show... Primordial is one of these chosen ones.

I dont listen to much metal these days. I cant stand the metal scene today to be ohnest. So when I do listen to metal, it is all kinds of metal from the 80's and 90's, as well as some newer bands ofcourse. At the moment I listen to a lot of progressive rock from the 60's and the 70's. All the classic shit.. VDGG, King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Camel, Jethro Tull and so on... But what I love is to discover a lot of names in the prog.-rock scene from that time, that we dont hear about anymore, or some even thought never existed. You can find a lot of forgotten gold in the prog.-rock scene thats for sure.
