Just saw a video of him performing live with Divine Heresey - clean vox sucked big time! The rest was kinda ok. He did better in Periphery, but it was his first show I think, so things can only get better...

And of course the obligatory equipment question: how is the vader cab vs. orange? Just a tour thingy or permanent usage?

orange cabs are still my favorite, but vader cabs are lighter, built to be used without roadcases, have casters and sound almost as good, so i have been bringing that on tour!
when i dont have to carry my shit into gigs, ill be using orange only haha!

The videos I can find of him with them are questionable. Will be interesting to hear him in studio.

No it won't.
If pitch correction can fix MY vocals, they can fix anybody's.

Couple questions Bulb,

1) Probably my fav guitar tone of yours is from "Totla Mad". I know that on your patch (from ss.org) you use the Vintage 30s cab(pretty sure). Do you tend to mainly stick to this cab and the 421 mic for your rhythm tracks? Just asking since you mentioned you changed your tone while in Mauritius...X2N as well i believe? I'm just trying to get a tone similar to totla mad.

2) Do you have a favorite EQ plugin that you like to use when EQ'ing your guitar tracks?

3) Would you recommend the X2N pup for djent-ish style tone?

Thanks bro!!! Hope this wasn't too much.

Just wondering but I know you guys use a lot of different tunings. How do you handle this live? Do you have to bring like 5 guitars?

Those drums sure sound tasteful

The snare sounds really sharp and cuts through the mix well. What kind of plugins and eq are you using and how might you about using them?

this is a weird question. what were you doing at 19? i'm a full time student, and a lot of times feel like i'm slacking off at guitar. (like most im in that position where i dont want to be in school but need to to atleast get a decent job to fund my band and music) how much time were you putting into guitar and recording at younger ages up till now? and where do you find your inspiration? i'll play for hours if i feel inspired by something.. but now just sitting here. ill just spend hours browsing guitar forums. :|

I don't know who you were addressing (probably Misha haha) but I can tell you that when I was your age I was doing the same thing and wondering what the answer was to that same question. Truth is there is no set way of succeeding at guitar or a music career you just have to put yourself out there, in harms way, make sure you're talking to lots of musicians online, meet up with them to jam, practice stuff you see people playing on YouTube or forums. When the right group of people or band comes along they may not always be in your neighborhood, you might have to move to god knows where, but I guess that depends on how badly you want to hone your skills/start a career.

Bulb, so when are you gonna do that video of Buttersnips like you said you would? :)

I've transcribed all the instruments up to 4 minutes and 2 seconds, and I just want to revise the guitar parts to learn it properly since some of what I came up with is horribly inefficient...

I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought this would be the best place to post.

I'm going to spam and ask for some opinions at the same time. Kewl.

I got some new very basic recording gear yesterday and have trialed some bits and pieces with a simple mix.

http://www.soundclick.com/pistolopera
(The last 2 tracks were done with the new setup)
Big Periphery influence on the newest track.

I also wanted to ask Bulb, Jake or any other home recording guru's what the next step would be to tweak/improve the mix. Im simply mic'ing up my 5150II with an SM57 and using Logic Pro. Little bit of EQ on the guitars. Running basic DFH samples for the percussion.

Sorry if i've hijacked the thread - Cheers doods!
(First post that hurts the most)

Hey Bulb, I have a question about the Podxt. I know you use a good amount of Presonus gear and so I assume youv heard about the Presonus Firebox and it's weak sauce preamp. I own one and Its basically only useful with condenser mics and even then, the signal is still pretty quiet. I was wondering if this is something that would affect the performance of a Podxt? I dont have a lot of time to put into my recordings so having to budget something like a Firepod and Podxt is a little more overkill for me. Would the Firebox and podxt play nice together?, or would I still have to get a better external preamp to route the the Firebox? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer and I hope for the best of luck in your search for a new drummer.

Hey, I don't know if this has been asked before.

I'm learning the clean part of Butter Snips thanks to a tab I found here, but no matter what tuning I've tried, the fingerings aren't quite the same as what I saw in that video you posted. It seemed much more fun to play the way you did it, so do you mind telling me the tuning and the starting fret/string you tap on?

Spasibo balshoye, Mish.

hey bulb

quick question.

What monitors are you using to record and mix on for the new album?

It looks like mr5's or 8's from the update videos.

And also is that the same monitors you've been using since you started the bulbapalooza?

Thanks

Hey guys. First off, I'm a huge fan of the band. Ever since I heard "The Walk" I've been into sound engineering / recording as a hobby and you've influenced my guitar playing / writing a lot. Genius shit!

On that note, if any member of the band (or forumgoer) would give me some criticisms @ http://www.myspace.com/chadhaynessolo that would just be awesome. Any EQ / mixing tips from the mastermind? :D

Love your work, congratulations on finally getting signed.
