Albums that surprised you by bands you'd written off
I just checked out the latest Krisiun [The Great Execution] last night and was pretty surprised by the quality. It took them almost 20 years as a band, but it looks like they finally learned how to write dynamic songs.

Nothing. I saw Meshuggah live when I was younger and just didn't get it.

Voivod - Killing Technology
Initially didn't care about them because my initial exposure to them was when they had a lot of press surrounding then when Jason Newsted joined the band and played Ozzfest. When I heard Forgotten In Space a few years later I painted the walls with jizz. |

I'm afraid I can't agree with that. Conquerors was fine for what it was, but it was so one-dimensional. Pretty much ignored everything after Ageless Venomous.

This. I didn't necessarily dismiss them as a band as I've always enjoyed them live and their concepts were pretty cool, I just never really cared to listen to their albums much. Then this monster came out and I was hooked instantly. IMO they've gotten better with every release.

I know a lot of people who wrote CD off with their earlier albums but I sometimes enjoy them. I really have to be in the right mood to listen to anything earlier than karma but w/e i like most of their stuff.

Time will tell how it holds up but I guess I'm not the only one who's thinking Pinnacle of Bedlam might go in this category.
