Some cool riffs, but I really don't like this record as a whole. I get that it's supposed to be spaced themed, but I don't feel the music matches up with that. It should have more mellow moments and psychedelic parts. Too many poor transitions (again), bad lyrics, too many ideas in each song, not enough breathing room for each instrument, and some rather awful parts. I don't get why there are so many moments that sound like a Carnival. What is next, really? Between The Buried and Me - Lost In The Funhouse with Bozo

I actually like some of those riffs in Bloom, if only I could manage to ignore the vocals. The riff at :29 sounds exactly like something something post-Colors. EXACTLY.

And the winding riffs that seem to have no direction other than tying together two unrelated parts are really getting nuts.

I like it. I think the songwriting is a big step up from Colors and Great Misdirect... Creative riffs. Good licks that they finally are now committing to. As has been the case since Colors the emotional value is compromised by the theatricality and melodramatic elements, but I've accepted that a while ago. And also the first time since Colors a pretty good production.
tldr; Colors = no, Future Sequence = yeah, Silent Circus = :willram

I just don't see how it is a mess. I'm not going to say it's the best thing ever...but it's definitely a good album. Most of you at this point are just looking for a reason to hate them...and you know it. Personally...I think the earlier material from these guys was pretty dumb. Some cool parts here and there but for the most part it WAS a MESS. I guess most of you need "My Sharona" style songs.

Ill give it a B. The musicianship is outstanding on all levels. Most of the songs are epic as fuck, and I don't think its as unstructured as people make it out to be. I can hear tie-ins all over the place and some stuff from hyper-sleep was worked in there. The album is pretentious as fuck though, they put way too much shit all over the place that it would take 50 listens for someone to take it all in. That's why almost none of it is memorable, and this album has no melody to it at all, which is why I probably wont listen to it often. The whole point of being dissonant is to build up the melodies. That's where they fucked up imo. If they're going to do the prog thing I want to hear memorable choruses like in Sun, Ants, and Informal Gluttony. Album is definitely good, but I expected it to up-stage Colors and it did not.
