Dear Anata

Can you by chance give us any itty bitty tidbit of news? Anata is one of the greatest bands I've ever heard, and it pains me to not know whats going on anymore. Conny, please give me some hope like Obama did. Yes we can?

Sincerely,
Lake Superior Lover

Ja dudes.

Nuclear Physics and Geology can wait for a moment. One update? What's the situation? Has the album been fully completed or was it stopped after guitars were done?

Who's a nuclear physicist among the Anats? I didn't know that. If I recall correctly, the album has been recorded, mixed and mastered, but it is not released because they want to get a record deal that will cover the production costs

No news makes me sad face. As was said, even a tidbit of news would at least sate my curiousity for a while.

i'm pretty sure the band is done. it's a real shame, but i can't see a rebound after this much silence. it would be great to see them return and show people what a real progressive metal band should sound like, so people would stop mistaking Obscura's scale wankery as genius and remember that real songs need RIFFS to be substantial. without bands like Anata, tech metal will drop in the laps of garbage like Brain Drill, Decrepit Birth, etc.

you know, the problem for me is the lack of information from the band; i don't know why they don't post here anymore, but it would be nice hearing some info from the band itself, because.. we basically know nothing about their status, their new album, and their problem with the label.

I believe Conny is (by his myspace page a nuclear technician). Cheers for the info.

@Concentrictech
Great post.

I hope the last album was not appropriately named.

maybe they should just release it under a different name other than Anata if the record label is screwing them over. it shouldn't come down to that but what are you gonna do?

Although things are not laughable at all,
I suggest the name of a Japanese word "Anta", an informal or rude version of "Anata".

Scroll down, bottom left. Between 1 and 2 month old comment from Conny:

"Hey!
Sorry for the late reply. For the moment we don't get any mails from Earache at all. They don't answer our mails so I don't know when we will start communicating again. That is all I can say right for the moment. Cheers/
Conny"

Yet Earache claim they get no replies from Anata?
... The irrational part of me puts too much weight on the possibility it could be some ridiculous contact issue.

can't they just go down to Earache's office if they don't respond to their e-mails? if they don't want to distribute their music anymore why they don't release them from their contract??? makes absolutely no sense

UK (Earache) vs Sweden.

I'm starting to think that this may be Anata's fault too somehow...

i wanted to give Anata the benefit of the doubt, but when you're an artist, you will get your art made regardless of the difficulties. i'm sure when they were tracking IDoH they weren't waiting on a handout from their label to get it mixed. i'm sure tracking this new record was way more costly, but i can't see a studio costing more than $75 an hour to mix a metal record, and i'm sure over the course of 3 years you can come up with that cost. Plus, I'm not one of those fans that feels a band is indebted to their fans, but they have built up a fanbase enough by now where they should feel that keeping their fans aware of what's happening is a duty that only makes sense if you want to keep people listening. right now, after unreturned emails, cryptic messages only from conny and very rarely, it really seems like the people in the band don't really care. and that totally sucks.
