Aborted is one of those bands...

That proves breakdowns aren't just for faggy broXmosh bands. Seriously one of my favorite bands. Not to mention Sven is just insane. Leng Tch'e is also my favorite grind band ever. Aborted is so awesome. Horns way up for Aborted!

I think Aborted, for opaquely including breakdowns in their sound, are far from being one of the best DM bands doing it. I think Aborted are excellent, but their breakdowns don't feel all that important in the overall scheme of their music to me. Of course, that's changing ever so slightly with each new release. Not sure I like the direction to be honest.

hahah, bullshit.

AA doesn't even have many breakdowns, unless you confuse them with rhythm I suppose. It's a lot more melodic though - and that's what has everyone's panties in a bunch.

Listen to Meticulous Invagination ... huge breakdown in the middle of the song, no one bitched then.

Breakdowns are excellent when used well, and most death metal bands do use them well.

Christ, I wonder if people acted like this when suffocation released pierced from within. Thrones of blood anyone? ...

uhm

breakdowns are a metal invention
not a hardcore invention

meshuggah pioneered the breakdown.
yes, really
listen to chaospehere and destroy erase improve, hell even none has a breakdown.
OLD school.

the breakdown was pretty much hijacked by hardcore bands from metal
kinda like how they hijacked the term 'music'

haha. yup pretty much any band that has any sort of breakdown in metal these days should go ahead and list Meshuggah as one of their influences.

uhhhh guys..

Destroy Erase Improve = 1995 and Chaosphere = 1998

You think they pioneered the breakdown?

Not only were death metal bands using it in the early 90's (heard of suffocation.. pyrexia? etc) But thrash bands like SLAYER were using them as well. Think "At dawn they sleep" from Hell awaits... you know.. a full 10 years before meshuggah released D.E.I.

And really.. early hardcore bands were doing the breakdown thing before meshuggah were too...

this is a pretty pointless argument. from what i gather, a breakdown is just when there is a break in tempo of the song to change the song up, where as a beatdown is a deliberate addition to the song just for the sake of having it there for people to mosh to.

punk/ hardcore bands had breakdowns back then as a way to rest after a fast part in the song.

i've heard aborted i've tried to get into it i really have, and in lots of reviews and on their site it says they use 'technicality' and 'musicianship' IMO it is trying to be this but its really not.

The vocals are harcorish, the guitars arent technical and tend to play riffs that just dont fit in , the drummer no complaints there. This band is nothing special much better out there. so can anyone recommend a song or album to buy i heard achaic abattoir and hated all of it. peace

Saying it's "just for the sake of" = retarded. You really don't know why a given band chooses to write a slow, chunky rhythm and add it to a song.

Maybe you know... they LIKE them.

well go to any generic hardcore/ metal core bands shows and watch them play the same shit beatdown that sounds the same as every other bands beatdown. they do it purely so that people will violent dance to it. let me ask you why the fuck you would like any bands beatdowns like ' on broken wings' and bands as equally boring and shit!?

" dun.. dun... dun.....duna nuna nuna duna...dun dun dun......dun dun dun dun..." yeh totally sick bro. watch me represent n shit.
