D-Beat Hardcore

Hey guys (meaning the Doctors, not you smelly other forum people :P),

I notice you use a lot of d-beats in your songs (well, some of them anyway). Do any of you listen to d-beat hardcore, and other old crust punk stuff? Or is it just co-incidental? I'm guessing the former if Dr. Wallin's in a crust band.

On slightly related matters, does anyone here like MG-15?

Don't really listen to much crust stuff these days, but back in the day Discharge, ENT, Doom and stuff like that was mandatory.. Old school DM is a mixture of HC and metal anyway. Just my 2 cents.

These days I'm definitely more into early 80's HC though, but I can't resist putting some filthy d-beats in most of the stuff I write for GS. Somehow it just fits so well.

Yeah - I think I can agree with all of what you just said. I might have to check out some of those bands you mentioned - I just started listening to old-school hardcore and thrash. Got some MG-15 and Fearless Iranians from Hell.

I reckon the whole crust, d-beat, etc. thing works well in grindcore.

Make sure you check out some Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat as well. Lots of extreme metal has it roots in that music. Great stuff!

Yeah, Black Flag should be pretty easy to get 'cause I know someone who's into them... I've heard some of their music on Futurama before : )

Bad Brains... they're that reggae hardcore band, aren't they? I'm checking out some of the anarcho stuff too - Crass are pretty cool from what I've heard of 'em.

Got a decent list to check out now - thanks for your recommendations!

Black Flag - get The First Four Years, Damaged, My War and Slip It In.. possibly Loose Nut as well. They get weirder by each record, and by the end they don't sound like any of the early stuff.

Bad Brains - get the ROIR sessions, Rock For Light and Black Dots. Also, their greatest hits thing Banned In D.C. is a good overview.
