Some cool riffs, but the structures are pretty boring, in my opinion.

Scepter*

Also, I think Symbols is markedly superior (though the vocals are annoyingly over-present).

Band has become brutally boring. Still going to catch them live here with Origin in a few days. It´s going to be drumalicious!

the two songs in the OP make me want to not even give this album a listen.... some of the riffs are good, but im tired of all the 4/4 and 4 repetitions and more of all these riffs... i really miss the scepter and isle era of psycroptic... they started getting progressively worse with symbols

This album is SO, SO bad. One of the most boring records I've heard in a long time.

New album sounds incredibly boring but they're still an amazing live band.

I never said it was shit! I just don't think anything touches their earlier material (as cliche as that sounds). I'm really wondering what it is that, for most bands, they can't keep the "magic", for lack of a better word, going for more than their first few releases. Even when their line-up (songwriters) don't change. Joe Haley is one of the tightest guitarists in the world, imo, definitely an inspiration, but judging from the couple of tracks I've heard, I just can't get into it as much.

Totally agree that this doesnt get close to being as 'classic' as the old albums, however its way way way better than observant which was a pile of annoying fuck imo.

The explanation is simple for me. When Chalky was gone, all the "magic" went away with him. In a band you need both musical skill as well as someone with an artistic vision and feeling. Psycroptic nowadays are a team of excellent professionals who kill at their instruments and only care about playing some kick ass music and have fun. This is how i feel. Not to say anything bad about the music. Everything they've released is compentent, but i just like Marlon, can't bring myself to care about it. That may change in the future, who knows

The combination of amazing riffs (some that actually evoke some sort of emotion, mind you), lyrics and one of the best vocal performances ever makes for one of the absolute best Technical DM albums.

Scepters' lyrics aren't as cool as Symbols', or Isle's.

I wasn't really impressed with the riffs, I think the newer riff style is much better. I think the band's greatest weakness are their structures. Most of their songs are just plain boring.

I can never get bored of Scepter. Joe Haley writes some of the catchiest and grooviest riffs ever.
