Me too, but I didn't know we had so many bassplayers untill the Musician Central was up. Look at all the bassthreads, I was afraid it would be just a guitarist place, but in fact it didn't.

Stephan Fimmers - Inspired me to really pursue four finger picking.

Derek Boyer - I love his tone, and just watching him play. In my opinion he's one of the most stylish musicians out there. The way he plays the bass vertically half the time and down low. I saw Suffocation the other night and half of the entire show I was just watching him.

Come on dudes, wheres the love for Dominic "Forrest" Lapointe!? The guy is a wizard on bass, easily the best i've ever seen. My other favorites include, but aren't limited to: Stephan Fimmers, Alex Webster, Erlend Casperson, Derek Boyer, Rainer Landfermann, Jaco Pastorius, Francois Mongrain, Steve Digiorgio, Sean Malone, CLIFF BURTON, ChaotH, and Murray Fitzpatrick.

edit: bassed (pun intended?!) on the videos ive seen, i really want to add Mikey Flores to this list, but untill I can actually hear him he will have to remain an honorable mention. Hopefully the new Origin cd will change this.

Agreed. He is flawless and plays with tons of energy. What I was really impressed with though is how humble and down to earth he is.

For sure man, he was always super chill whenever i met him. One of the greatest things ive ever witnessed was seeing him do back to back sets with augury and quo vadis... talk about a bass clinic.

I've always thought playing like that is fucking rediculous. You just end up looking like you are in KoRn.

I don't think I've ever seen Fieldy do that, and Derek did look extremely impresive when I saw him do that

WHAT you play should be the only deciding factor. Holding a guitar like it's a gigantic phallus is just a sad show for kids who think it looks "Sick".

And to Phoncible, every instrument has to stand it's test of time to be considered even remotely respectable as a lead instrument. I mean, the electric bass itself wasn't even respected as an instrument worthy of Jazz until the 70's. You cannot judge a musician based upon his instrument's expected role, only his technique, musicality and uniqueness. And judging by that criteria this mother has some credit.

No, I actually didn't even know it was going on until people were talking about it the next day. I dropped the ball on that one.

Jean's Myspace is a clusterfuck of amazing bassists. Yves Carbonne is brilliant. I just don't like this new idea that more strings = more talent.

Well, it does take a lot of skill and practice to master a 13 string bass, and nuclear rabbit just rule.

But they should be getting the recognition for this skill and practice not the "omg" factor of their fingerboard width.

Victor Wooten pretty much sums it all up for me. Probably the best allround player out there.
