listening to Alaska for the first time in years

damn, this shit is a lot more of a classic than i remember it being.

Alaska
Backwards Marathon
Autodidact

= 3 of BTBAMs best imo.

im listening to everything sequentially.

S/t = not as good as i remember it being for some reason.
TSC = just as damn good as it has always been
Alaska = a bit better than i gave it credit for

im sure colors will still be grand, and im sure TGM will still suck...but im hoping it wont.

actually i kinda agree. the s/t really isn't as good as i used to think it was way back in the day (i listened to it recently for the first time in literally years), and i've long since come to accept that alaska isn't bad at all.

Alaska and Colors are still sweet, fuck everybody on here. There's also a few filler tracks on the s/t that I don't care for. The Silent Circus is almost perfect the whole way through. TGM's my least favorite BTBAM album but it's not terrible music like some of you fags like to say it is.

I'll be ready to repeat what I said next month when the next BTBAM discussion thread pops up

I have to get Alaska... finally getting into them. I've never really been a fan like everyone here is - I just posted here. TSC is fucking great. And Colors is definitely not as bad as everyone said.

I agree with that, except for you S/T assessment. You may be right, however, it's the album that got me hooked, so I will always regard it highly. Alaska is wicked underrated though, wicked.

And cr0y, noone cayurs.

I don't think there's a single "filler" track on s/t. How could there be, there's 8 songs, and ALL of them are memorable.

I agree that TSC is the perfect album all the way through.

Alaska is still good to me. There's things about it now that bother me a bit, and I've still never liked Backwards Marathon, or Croakies.

Colors fucking blows. I still think Ants is pretty cool, and White Walls was pretty cool, but got old as fuck.

TGM, however, if the songs were a bit shorter, would be pretty damn listenable. Swim to the Moon is lame, but I really like DIM.

I hate Aspirations, and yeah. Alaska had some of BTBAM's greatest moments. I know everyone hates Croakies, but I love the brutal death metal vox on it, haha.

Roboturner is awesome until the end. I can't stand it.

I too am on the boat of Alaksa getting better with age.

Hearing TGM especially makes me appreciate the older stuff more. Still can't get into that fuckin record.

I blame crackrocksteady for making me go back and analyze s/t. There are a lot of parts I can't stand. Oh well, it's the quirks and little mistakes that make the best of the big picture.

But Alaska is fucking bomb.

I've asked the same question on vinyl collective and Dead Format, it looks like the only BTBAM vinyl releases are Alaska, Silent Circus, and Colors.

There are talks here and there about an independent release of their catalog once they sign to a new label (I believe their contract with Victory should be up by now or at least soon), kind of like the recent Blink-182 pressings.

That would be amazing if they released ST on vinyl(as well TSC as a rerelease). I've seen a few copies of TSC floating around ebay but i haven't won one yet.

Still waiting on TGM too.

I'd pick up TGM in a second for sure. I still don't understand why they didn't put it out on vinyl in the first place... Isis' Panopticon utilizes the space of the gatefold to expand upon the artwork on the CD release, I think TGM's satellite imagery could use the vinyl treatment.

I'm not sure if I'd pick up TSC on vinyl, if only because it's on Victory. Their quality and care of the packaging is usually shit (except for Alaska, I was with v2kv today and that looked sturdy), with a piece of cardboard in front of a shitty dustcover with "VICTORY RECORDS" slammed in the middle of the disc, and not the band's. I'm really hoping that the new releases get the care and attention they deserve.
