But, as you’ve admitted, we’re talking about lyrics here, not music, and the music of both Gorgasm and Arghoslent is quite enjoyable.

i am quite fond of both Arghoslent and GBK. Both bands have awesome music and i don't agree with their views but the lyrics were clearly written with thought behind them.



there's a bit on this acceptance speech about seeing past whatever views and seeing the actual art and appreciating it.

Hmmm truth be told I hadn't thought about extreme mysogyny in lyrics, because it's not something I personally encounter. I dislike brutal death metal in general purely from a musical standpoint, so I haven't had to make that judgement call. Themes like that usually exist only in slamz and pornogrind.

If I'm being honest, I don't think I would enjoy a band that makes violence against women their main focus without it being apparent that they're exploring a theme purely for artistic reasons rather than advocating for it.

None of the guys in Gorgasm--especially Demian, the founding member--are crazed misogynists with a lust for masculine dominance. Their lyrical content is meant to be taken like old school horror flicks, it's just a shock + awe medium to drive the instrumentals. I'm willing to bet 99% of active bands with that kind of lyrical content are using that style purely as an artistic backdrop for their music. I'm stressing the word "active" here, cause it takes a lot of fucking time, money, and dedication to be in an active band that tours. There's literally no time or resources for misogynistic practices.

I don't doubt that, and my gut feeling would be to assume that's the case. Personally, I think I would have to draw a line depending on how it's depicted. A simple depiction/description of the acts wouldn't bother me. If the writers in question start adding stuff like "that bitch deserved it" or something, whether or not they actually mean it, it starts becoming too much like a suggestion rather than an exploration.

I kind of liked the fact that it didn't have lyrics. This seemed like a return to form for him - I liked him better when he was primarily a breakcore artist with extreme metal sprinkled in, rather than vice versa.

That?s incredible. Two of the most intriguing black metal bands going right now, I think Voidhanger is unfairly associated with Iceland DSO but they?re more eclectic a label than say Nordvis or Dark Descent.

Really happy Afterbirth are so quickly back after such a long stretch of demos. There are few bands doing early Wormed worship, the only slam worth talking about; with Epicardiectomy being signed to NSE and Organectomy from Australia I thought I?d try the sub genre given it?s seeping into spheres I admire, I went the Russian route and godawful it is.

The new Odious Mortem two tracks in is incredible; could use some tightening up in the songwriting, surprisingly given the twelve years it took to write but it?s early days and I guess also they?ve had an abundance of material, plus they are carrying the torch for that short lived modern sound of now defunct severed savior. None do it like neurotic era California bands.

As for racism in music, I?d be hard-pressed to find an smn forumer not gutted Craig Pillard isn?t a member of the Disma anymore.
