So how would you know members of Gorgasm or similar-themed bands don’t secretly beat their girlfriends senseless at home or condone and encourage violence against women? You don’t and it wouldn’t matter if you did, because no elements of satire or parody are present in the lyrics making them reprehensible trash regardless of the - in your case entirely speculative - intentions of the author. But, as you’ve admitted, we’re talking about lyrics here, not music, and the music of both Gorgasm and Arghoslent is quite enjoyable. Last edited by Lichtbringer; 01-09-2020 at 12:59 AM.. |

Re: 2020 album discussion thread
i am quite fond of both Arghoslent and GBK. Both bands have awesome music and i don't agree with their views but the lyrics were clearly written with thought behind them.
there's a bit on this acceptance speech about seeing past whatever views and seeing the actual art and appreciating it. TLDR: psyched for both bands and new Arty B. Oh yeah, new stuff from P2 2020: Jon Engman The Heretics Fork |

If I'm being honest, I don't think I would enjoy a band that makes violence against women their main focus without it being apparent that they're exploring a theme purely for artistic reasons rather than advocating for it. |

Re: 2020 album discussion thread
None of the guys in Gorgasm--especially Demian, the founding member--are crazed misogynists with a lust for masculine dominance. Their lyrical content is meant to be taken like old school horror flicks, it's just a shock + awe medium to drive the instrumentals. I'm willing to bet 99% of active bands with that kind of lyrical content are using that style purely as an artistic backdrop for their music. I'm stressing the word "active" here, cause it takes a lot of fucking time, money, and dedication to be in an active band that tours. There's literally no time or resources for misogynistic practices.

Re: 2020 album discussion thread
So is Flourishing pretty much dead for good now? I remember them awhile back saying they reformed and there would be a new album coming out eventually but then Aeviterne came and haven't really heard any update on Flourishing.

Nu Sutrah came outta nowhere for me...
Haven't seen new Afterbirth mentioned either - this song is giving me quite heavy Anata vibes (particularly Under a Stone with No Inscription): Last edited by NNotN-ENN; 01-14-2020 at 11:30 PM.. Reason: more |

My disappointment that it doesn't have vocals is mostly negated by how amazing the video is.

Spectral Lore / Mare Cognitum split that is almost 2 hours long. This could be huge.

Re: 2020 album discussion thread
![]() Really happy Afterbirth are so quickly back after such a long stretch of demos. There are few bands doing early Wormed worship, the only slam worth talking about; with Epicardiectomy being signed to NSE and Organectomy from Australia I thought I?d try the sub genre given it?s seeping into spheres I admire, I went the Russian route and godawful it is. The new Odious Mortem two tracks in is incredible; could use some tightening up in the songwriting, surprisingly given the twelve years it took to write but it?s early days and I guess also they?ve had an abundance of material, plus they are carrying the torch for that short lived modern sound of now defunct severed savior. None do it like neurotic era California bands. As for racism in music, I?d be hard-pressed to find an smn forumer not gutted Craig Pillard isn?t a member of the Disma anymore. ![]() Last edited by The Duff; 01-18-2020 at 07:11 PM.. |

That Afterbirth song is from their 2014 demp. It's the 3rd song. New recording sounds pretty good.

Yes ok fair enough shall we say until tragedy stops befalling them as the bassist has suffered several strokes and their lead guitarist last I heard has extreme carpal tunnel? My post was a remorseful one if perhaps ill informed detective.
