ENGL FIREBALL 100 E635
Guess it's an upgrade over the original Fireball E625, looks like they added a Noisegate, and it's up from 60 watts to 100. Wonder how it sounds. Adam.. buy one of these and lemme know how it is.

They definitely have some gain, that's for sure. But the tone sounds a bit harsh and sterile to some people. Not as versatile as the Powerball which isn't that much more expensive.

yep, lol
Yeah, I remember that guy Inertiopus (andrew?) recorded a video of some DB/Death and I hated how his Powerball sounded. Maybe it was because he was standing in front of it or something... |

Could be. The amps lack a little sweetness IMO. I'll be getting Carvin v3 soon.

It was actually because it was on channel 4 and my stupid guitar had the overdrive switch on . Some stupid mistakes. It did sound atrocious. I think the wattage upgrade on the fireball is gonna kick ass . Not unnecessary at all. I played an invader for the 2nd time the other day trying to give it another chance but I hate that thing.

I kitted out my powerball, sounds great now.
NOS Jan-Phillips 5751 in V1, GT-12AX7-R3 in V2, and two GT-12AX7-C's a GT-6L6 S (similar to the KT77 apparently) power section which break up early, when combined with the 5751 in V1, it pushes the distortion away from the pre-amp and to the power-amp. I get the 'thump' but none of the sterile fizz. much better. |

It really has opened it up |

Damn, really? I was thinking about getting one (a few months ago) but it was a few dollars too expensive, went and got the Vader 4x12 instead. I'm guessing I made the right decision, as the Vader is monstrous.

yes you did. Vaders, as is my understanding; are indestructible.
My ENGL came out for 3 months last year. Lost a wheel, then another. all the covering tore of the sides when it went in and out of the van and the speakers constantly needed tightening up. Still, when tightened, it sounds AMAZING. but the Vader is probably better. |

The Fireball was always the best Engl in terms of price/performance, nice and simple with crushing tone at a volume that's useable. This looks really interesting, the noise gate is a good idea, along with the mid boost and separate gains. If you can assign the mid boost to one of the Master controls then you've basically got a two channel amp...interesting but I can't see either Mass or Jim getting rid of their Fireballs for this new version.

One thing though is I have gone to record with them twice and each time they sounds like pooh, always just end up using a marshall. |

ah, well we re-amped the guitars so I'm not sure how much of that actually went through to the final mix.. I do like the idea of having the built-in noise-gate.. since that's all I'm missing at the moment. That ISP Decimator is really nice I've heard, but it's a bit pricey and I kind of wanted to have my setup without needing any pedals.

I never really like the sound of the "old Fireball.
And I'm not sure if the integrated noise-gate is any good; the newer version of the Powerball has an integrated noise-gate as well and people say it sucks and they still have to/prefer to put a pedal in front of the amp. If the decimator is too pricey, go with the BOSS NS2; if you don't push the settings too hard, the influence on the sound isn't that big. The amp should have an input for the pedal on it's back, then your amp will be just quiet (so don't put the pedal between guitar and amp). Forbidden: What ENGL amps have you tried and why don't you like them (anymore)?! A lot of US people seem to be crazy about ENGL amps. ;) |

Haven't had to much luck with the vader holding up either! Both ours are fucking destroyed! Wheels fell out along with two of the actual holders. Speakers fall out and have to be rescrewed and the tolex is damn near gone. Great tone though I love em'
edit: Marlon the ISP is sick but for half the money you can get the MXR pedal that works 95% as good as the rack mount ISP. We had both and sold the ISP |
