Choose from my selection of DsO songs

Yes, there are clear omissions. There's a limit on the number of options we can include in polls, and I consider all of the 20+ minute songs to essentially be releases of their own, rather than "songs" within one.

Looking back on these albums, although Fas does the complete horror thing better than any other album I've heard, Si monu is fantastically diverse in its expressiveness (for black metal), to the point of being outright charming. The last four minutes of Carnal Malefactor, the last section, particularly the final riff of Sola Fide II, etc.

I see Kenose as I think most others do: the band transitioning from the more thoroughly black metal sound of Si monu to the chaotic, tech-death that has probably culminated with Chaining and Fas. The material has nice elements of each "era". The final riff in II which sort of spirals out of control as the drums fade is quintessential DsO, and points directly to what happened with Fas.

I'm surprised that you guys prefer III to II. I think the opening section is great, but the long "ambient" part through the middle, and the fade-out keep me from really looking at it as a complete song, as I do the other two.

That and I just really like II :p

Shrine is a good one, raises up some fucked up visions when I listen to that track...I remember when I first listened to Fas, I got a little scared after the intro.

Chose The Shrine of Mad Laughter but my personal favourite is Bread of Bitterness, which is absent from that list.

FUCK YES! I never hear any love for BoB, fantastic song and easily my favorite from that album, maybe my favorite overall. Although technically Chaining is my real favorite, even though it's really long, it has everything I look for in music and then some, and Kenose I has my all time favorite riff from them, and the opening with the drum and bass build up leading to that awesome choral section is incredible, and....

DsO is so amazing.

To Acatalepsy and stupefaction:

I love Bread of Bitterness too, but it seems like the least popular song on Fas overall, and I had to cut songs to make the 10 max cut.

Stupefaction, which riff in I is your favorite?

Hmph. It's funny that we saw it oppositely, but you were right:

On Last.fm, the 6 month chart has them in this order: Shrine, Bread, Chore, Scars

I suppose I should have included Bread instead of Scars, but it would have hurt me. I think Scars is one of their very best, and Fas's centerpiece. I love it from start to finish.

My bad.

Carnal... for me. That song is the epitome of greatness from start to finish. I also prefer III over II, the ambient part makes it even better, imho.

Chose Shrine of Mad Laughter.

Though I am not particularly into this band nor am I that familiar with most of the choices presented.

The one at 6:44. It's so frantic and haunting. And when it pops up again at 7:19... oh man.

Dude, it's impossible to narrow it down. Scars is incredible as well. Even though they only have like 24 or 25 songs from their new "era", it's hard to pick a favorite amongst such a relatively small selection. They're that good.

I agree with both of those.

Also, I wish peope would praise the drummer more. Not only can he blast amazingly fast and tight, but his cymbal work is very discordant and adds to the mindfuckery of the riffs. Just listen to the first minute of Chaining. Plus his fills are very well-placed and just ratchet up the brutality and dissonance of the whole experience. Plus plus, he has this odd, though awesome, bombastic groovy style like he does at 1:41 in Chaining. He does this a bunch. See 7:52 of Chore for another example. I love it.

Plus plus plus, his more subdued work during DsO's famous interludes perfectly match what the guitars and bass are trying to accomplish.

So give the dude the props he deserves.

THANK YOU! Finally someone mentions how DsO awesome the drummer is. Sure the riffs are excellent but the drums is another area where DsO shine. So tight and (like Stupe said) groovy.
