Song writing

How do you usually go about it sven?? I mean, there's some really awesome lyrics you have, and i find myself shocked everytime i sit down and read them. Do you just write different lyrics and choose what best fits what song you're playing? Or do you get a sick riff in your head, and write lyrics around that??? Or write lyrics first, and make the music around it? or all three??

hey man

no we write the music first. When a song is finished I come up with the vocal patterns next & then the lyrics. It works best that way so everything actually fits the song instead of writing lyrics & hoping it'll fit the song or forcing the words in then because you want the lyric to be cool.

We usually work with the guitarists coming up with some riffs, then we all work on the structure of the song, ideas to alter some riffs or put other riffs etc, once all that is done, then we work on the vocals, then on the samples, etc etc

So you get all the music down, then get the vocal patterns down? as in, how you want them to sound, but no words? good deal...Since i dont know how to play anything, all i can really do is write lyrics that come to be...but i've begun to notice, that i tend to write my best if i have a song stuck in my head, or even model some of the theme around another song. DAMN, i just might have to learn something...what do you think? guitar, or drums??

I'd like to, but i'll have to wait for a bit, until i get into a more...stable environment. I'd prefer drums, since i understand drums, and like em. I always dig drums the most at live shows. I had an acoustic at one point, but i didnt knwo how to tune it, and it was hard to modivate myself try to play when i knew absolutly NOTHING about playing...drums would be easier to pick up for me i think, just pound away and practice...

yeah.....I'm white, is that going to be a problem??

Drums would be a logical start, i seem to find myself air-drumming like a dumbass a lot, hahaha. Seriously though, what would you suggest to learn on: An electric drum kit, or the 'real deal'???

obviously the real deal, i find electronic kits ok to practice on for people who already know how to play, it feels very diffferent from a real kit so if you get used to only playing that & then go to a real kit, you might be in for a few surprises hehe
