Well, I got my copy in the post this afternoon, and to my delight, all my issues with the drum sound just seem to disappear when played on my home stereo. It all sounds great.

And boy...this album CRUSHES!!! Perhaps I've been living in a cave, but the tempos here seem to really grab me by the throat and send me flying across the room. Plus, Francesco has dethroned Benton/Trapani in terms of utterly satisfying death-growl vocals...

A fair point: it is too soon to tell whether those deathmetal riffs will actually stick in my head. On first impression, I did notice that many of the standard FA riffs are kind of like the tremolo picked melody riffs in Cryptopsy's Phobophile. Seems to be their core "riff-style".

Overall, all the melodies and the Benton-esque vocals kinda of evoke Dechristianize-era Vital Remains too.

First there was Leonardo Da Vinci (born 15/04/1452)

And, now we have

Francesco Paoli (born 22/09/1984) !!!!
- vocals in Hour of Penance
- guitar/vocals/songwriting in Fleshgod Apocalypse (on "Oracles")
plus,
- drums/backing vocals in Fleshgod Apocalyspe (live)

I swear, the guy is a friggin' renaissance man!
Sooo talented.

Yeah, they got a small feature in this month's Terrorizer Magazine, where they talk about doing some serious touring in the near future.

I gotta commend those guys for resolving the drummer problem by having a member sit down and learn to play drums in 5-6months (from scratch?). That definitely opens up the touring possibilities!

Cool to see positive comments on the album. I'll probably buy this then, I love H.O.P anyways

Thanks for the feedback-what else did I get wrong?-id like to fix the review to be accurate at least. I wrote the review from work and used metal-archives for the line up- as I didnt have the CD with me.

Still only semi-digging this album, I like HOP more. But it's a solid release and I'd probably see them if they toured the states

I'm pretty sad because HOP were supposed to play in my city with Vital Remains but they canceled. And i really don't care for the new Vital Remains at all. I might go and check Steve's band Order of Ennead cuz they're gonna be the opening act.

Stupid question. There's no chance that Glen Benton is gonna play with them live, right?

he has quite a few times before, i missed a deicide/vital remains show a longgg time ago haha so i wonder if he did vocals for both. I went to a metal fest last year & i believe he was suppose to do vocals, someone else was on em that day.

not digging this too much... the solos blow, the "classical" elements are pointless to where it just feels like filler material....

maybe more listens will help..

Honestly, the classical music is not that intrusive. It's good, solid death metal. And Francesco is quickly becoming one of my favorite new death metal vocalists. He is just ferocious.

yea i know novareaper... i wasnt aware he was a new yorker... cody/inception lives in my area, but hes only been jammin guitar for 2 years.... my old melodeath band was called Sorrow of Batavia... i couldnt stand the music in the first place.. i just joined so i could play shows and all they wanted me for was my leads... which was cool because i could write any kind of leads that i wanted... one benefit from playing in the band was the fact that i got a lot better with harmony and counterpoint
