Overall I perfer Mortuus over Legion.

I believe Mortuus is more well fit for Marduk and the general direction the band has taken. Even the older songs are being rehersed stronger than ever with Mortuus doing the vocals originally written and arranged by Legion.

In the live scene I can see negative and positive aspects with both singers. Mortuus brings a presence to the band like never before. He is loud and in your face with no remorse! Still I cant help but notice how much the quality of his voice differs live compared to the studio recordings. I find it far too distorted and fuzzy on the stage. He I think he needs to improve his balance and range(live). It almost seems like they are still trying to work out the kinks without the aid if studio tools. As much as I hate to say it, Mortuus sucked on vocals live in Tijuana in 2005. Perhaps it was just trouble that night but nor am I very found of the latest live Marduk CD (vocal quality) either. Dont get me wrong, Plague Angel is definitly one of the very best Marduk efforts and Mortuus couldnt have done better on that studio album. I look forward to the next studio release.

Even though I like Legion's voice less he was a master of live vocals. His breath control and unique abilities set him apart. Some of his quick and clever vocal structures still amaze me. I never did like his "open arms" style since I see Marduk as quite an "unfriendly" band (you know what I mean?). Still, at least his live vocals sounded quite simmilar to his studio efforts.

Nornagest, have you seen Marduk live for yourself with Mortuus on vocals?

Yes, twice and both times were excellent!
I lost my interest for Marduk for a while but since their new line up, I think they are back to what they were and perhaps even better.
The vocals are powerfull and "meant" and the whole tmosphere live is what I can call Black Metal.
I think Legion was very good live until he had problems with his throat (but that's not his fault of course) but I couldn't really appreciate the over friendly atittude, which doesn't fit such a band and especially when you hve sttements like "Death to peace!!" and you hug people in the crowd after a stage diving!

You think so? I hope so, plus I hope Darkthrone's next new album will be better than 'The Cult Is Alive'. I don't really like that album. It sounds way too "punky" and "thrashy" with Nocturno Culto's vocals as the only real black metal element. I would prefer to see Darkthrone return to a more "pure" Norwegian Black Metal sound like on 'Under A Funeral Moon', 'Transylvanian Hunger', 'Panzerfaust', or even 'Ablaze In the Northern Sky'.

'The Cult Is Alive' is probably Darkthrone's lowest point. That album sucks. More like "evil rock" or "necro-thrash" than black metal.

I always prefered to say that I don't like an album instead that it sucks...
especially when it's well written.
I think it's different but not bad at all, just a matter of taste and feeling.
"The Cult is Alive" is a very good album, even if I prefer those album you mention... you can feel more Motörhead influences than the Celtic Frost/ hellhammer vibe and there are still several parts which are totally Darkthrone.

I'm actually looking forward to the new DHG (Dödheimsgard) and the forth comming album of The Black as well.

But you have to recognize that Darkthrone is not the same thing than 14 years ago. I think they passed over the black metal and do antoher style of music because they just want to have a change.

Mayhem - Ordo Ab Chao, on the website of seasons of mist you can download the song Anti. This song wouldn't be misplaced on DMDS ...

Right Topic: Ordo Ab Chao will be released in April 2007 and while saying this I mentionned you can download a song from that forthcoming album and about the song anti I wrote how it sounded, not that it was actually playing. Maybe I wasn't very clear about that information. And please Moloc stop nagging about some topicdetails, thnx, nothing personally dude, but just some info ;)

Nice, i ignore that Mayhem were going to release a new full-lenght. But honeslty, Mayhem is not a band that I'm listening ( today material I'm talking about ). I find that Grand Declaration of War wasn't a really good cd.

On the issue of upcoming releases, isn't Havohej supposed to be releasing the 10" "Tongkat Blood Wand" sometime this year?

I agree. The Cult Is Alive is an excellent kick ass album by the mighty Darkthrone, and in my opinion it is thier best LP since 1996 Total Death album, which was awsome. It does have an old-school type of feeling....Graveyard Slut is taken right out from the vien text book of Hellhammer as a nod to the old-school. The Cult Is Alive is an extremly great recording by Darkthrone, and the song writting reeks of oil, cigareets and beer!!!! Awsome!

This album is way way better, much better than "Soulside Journey"......."Goatlord"(I hate that record)....and "Panzerfaust"(I am the only Darkthrone fan there is that does not like this LP! LOL!)...."Ravishing Grimness"....."Plague Weilder"....."Hate Them" and "Sardonic Wrath".

Darkthrone's best 5 LPs in my personal opinion:

Under A Funeral Moon
Transilvanian Hunger
A Blaze In The Northern Sky
Total Death
The Cult Is Alive

I remember reading that a long time ago Profanatica had recorded an album in 1992 that was supposed to be their original FIRST full-length. It was going to be called 'The Raping of the Virgin Mary' but the master tapes in the studio were completely destroyed, which really....well...sucks!

Also, I learned that Havohej released a full song in 2004 in mp3 format only called "Passion of A Liar," and it's still down-loadable. It's a killer song. If I find the link, I'll be sure to post it.
