This was a little underwhelming, but I'm still keen on hearing the album.

EDIT: That Cosmic Putrefaction is ace. I'm loving the fact that he's blending the sounds of his two projects, I thought the first Cosmic Putrefaction release was good, but a little on the standard side. Gabriel is a one-man band force to be reckoned with. Not to mention, hands down, most creative drum programming I've ever heard.

More Serpent Column on the way, sounds like black metal Pyrrhon.

It’s an incredible album. They’ve leapt into the higher echelons. The playfulness and heaviness I would match with Malignancy, also another one of my favorite drum performances along with stalwarts Lille, Merat etc. The production had me scratching my head for all but 10 seconds before being totally submerged in slam glory.

Zhrine an Ulcerate clone? Interesting take.

How can I go against the guy who learns to play all their songs? You win this one bud.

Perhaps not as flagrant as ad nauseum or that Japanese band I forget the name, but eerie ringing drone melodeath if I had to tag it. DSgOrguts.

Re: 2020 album discussion thread

Ad Nauseam, I could see, but they have equal parts Gorguts/Deathspell influence as well. Zhrine, to me, sounds like a death metal version of the Icelandic black metal scene. But that makes sense, since I'm pretty sure a lot of those bands share a lot of the same members. I could be wrong, where's Nokkvi when you need him? I think he played in Svartidaudi.

Oleg I believe you as they’ve been listed in the same breath as myrksping, batushka and svartodaudi not sure on any of the spellings there or if batushka are similar haha - there must be similarities on life’s grim outlook between Iceland and Poland. I always thought Iceland was a utopian Scandinavian type country but the lyrics of myrsping say otherwise.

My knowledge of metal is limited and I daren’t learn Ulcerate as much as I’d like to. I also have to revisit both bands but afterbirth keeps getting better and better.

Lucien are you related to pestifer at all or just because you are both French? It’s the next tech band I will check. With fractal universe and canucks France is dominating the scene.
