Grand Belial's Key- apparently there's a 2016 unreleased album that has been remastered before Xmas and should be released this year on the World Terror Committee label

I figured we would've gotten a new Grand Belial's Key album before we got another Arghoslent one. After all it has been longer since their last album out. It looks like 2020 is going to be a big year for both bands, can't wait.

If you listen to a band that flies a Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging flag you're a scumbag plain and simple. Oh, but you're a noble defender of free speech and artistic purity. Let's see how long you'd stick to that one if it were a band of Islamic militants singing about white genocide. Or a band of "SJW" anti-fascists singing about killing and silencing all explicit or implicit NS sympathizers. Oh sure, one in a thousand would be the truly enlightened psychotic fuck who would do that. Otherwise, give me a fucking break. The vast majority of the time this art and free speech monologue is nothing but a smokescreen for tacitly condoning white supremacy. And we've got people constantly lamenting how there's so much amazing music coming out constantly that there's no time to listen to it all. Yet somehow there's always plenty of time to listen to this garbage? Fuck off and die.

If you can’t separate the art from the artist, it’s kinda your loss. Supporting these guys financially is obviously a different story. Show me some Islamic fundamentalist metal that’s as good as Arghoslent, I’m game. Guess that makes me a psychotic fuck? lmfao
And I’m pretty sure no one is actually seriously complaining about there being too much good music to listen to.
On the off chance I’m getting trolled here, wp. If not, that’s an unusually nonsensical post from you.

Is separating art from the artist the issue here? Seems to me that the art itself is the contention in this case. I don't know anything about Arghoslent, nor have I ever listened to them - if they're just being sarcastic dicks, then I get it. Brutal death metal bands do the same shit with violence against women. If they're actually unironically being white supremacists and pushing that in their songs, then fuck them, I ain't listening to that crap. It's the same thing with "Christian metal" bands - I will not condone nor participate in their putrescent ideology and filthy belief system.

Artificial Brain is working on a new album, hoping we can get it out before the year ends. Dan's tracks are completely next level, I can't think of any other band that has a sound that's similar to his writing. I'll also have at least one original tune on there, possibly 2 depending on what we finally decide for the track list.

Does an ideology or belief system penetrate the music itself? Are we not allowed to enjoy Richard Wagner’s music because he was an antisemite?
Also, being “sarcastic dicks” is a terrible excuse for producing reprehensible content (misogyny, nazism etc.), but that won’t stop me from enjoying some Brutal Death like Gorgasm or whatever.

only if the ideology is explicity spelled out as part of the art itself. Flight of the Valkyries devoid of historical context is just a pretty tune. "Flogging the Cargo" is inescapably about the slave trade and garbage pseudo-science

intentionally sarcastic content meant to convey the opposite of what is portrayed is satire, no?

Are we discussing music/sounds or poetry/lyricism/words?

Poetry/lyricism/words. I highly doubt that members of BDM bands actually want to see people dismembered and eaten, or that they expect giant monsters to rampage through their cities.

Maybe "satire" isn't the most technically correct word in a strict collegiate sense, but the point is that it's usually pretty damn obvious when an artist is exploring fantasies without strictly advocating for their enactment. Calling African slaves "mongrel dogs" with a "flawed geneome" makes it pretty obvious that these songs are racist trash.

I was talking about stuff like Gorgasm that’s extremely misogynistic, so I really don’t know why you’re suddenly talking about dismembered people (horror) or monsters (fantasy).
So how would you know members of Gorgasm or similar-themed bands don’t secretly beat their girlfriends senseless at home or condone and encourage violence against women? You don’t and it wouldn’t matter if you did, because no elements of satire or parody are present in the lyrics making them reprehensible trash regardless of the - in your case entirely speculative - intentions of the author.
But, as you’ve admitted, we’re talking about lyrics here, not music, and the music of both Gorgasm and Arghoslent is quite enjoyable.

i am quite fond of both Arghoslent and GBK. Both bands have awesome music and i don't agree with their views but the lyrics were clearly written with thought behind them.

there's a bit on this acceptance speech about seeing past whatever views and seeing the actual art and appreciating it.

TLDR: psyched for both bands and new Arty B.

Hmmm truth be told I hadn't thought about extreme mysogyny in lyrics, because it's not something I personally encounter. I dislike brutal death metal in general purely from a musical standpoint, so I haven't had to make that judgement call. Themes like that usually exist only in slamz and pornogrind.

If I'm being honest, I don't think I would enjoy a band that makes violence against women their main focus without it being apparent that they're exploring a theme purely for artistic reasons rather than advocating for it.

Oleg 01-09-2020 05:34 PM

Re: 2020 album discussion thread

None of the guys in Gorgasm--especially Demian, the founding member--are crazed misogynists with a lust for masculine dominance. Their lyrical content is meant to be taken like old school horror flicks, it's just a shock + awe medium to drive the instrumentals. I'm willing to bet 99% of active bands with that kind of lyrical content are using that style purely as an artistic backdrop for their music. I'm stressing the word "active" here, cause it takes a lot of fucking time, money, and dedication to be in an active band that tours. There's literally no time or resources for misogynistic practices.

I don't doubt that, and my gut feeling would be to assume that's the case. Personally, I think I would have to draw a line depending on how it's depicted. A simple depiction/description of the acts wouldn't bother me. If the writers in question start adding stuff like "that bitch deserved it" or something, whether or not they actually mean it, it starts becoming too much like a suggestion rather than an exploration.
